Divine Light

Pura Ulun Danu Beratan is one of the most instagrammed temples in Bali, Indonesia. Before I headed there, I knew I had to make an image that was unique. So I set out from the hotel around 4am, when it was still dark outside, drove for 2 hours and reached the temple before the sun started to rise. After taking some customary images of the temple, I positioned myself behind the tree just as the sun started to peak out. Made this image with sun burst to highlight the beautiful morning light and how it looked so divine.

Like the way this image turned out especially because of the different colours and tones. The mist on the water, that was caused by the sun's light, added to the whole scene beautifully.

Also, learnt that day that "pura" means Hindu temple in Bali.

The Pelican Duo

Pelicans have to be one of my favourite birds. They are always active and are so photogenic. But, in this setting, the foggy landscape was the star of the show. So when these two pelicans waddled into the frame, I underexposed the image to make a silhouette of these birds. The think fog in the golden light makes for a surreal setting.

Aqua Bear

Polar bears are also referred to as ice bears because they spend most of their lives on the Arctic ice, hunting seals. With the summers getting warmer than usual, the ice has started to disappear much earlier than usual forcing the bears to look for other ways to source food. On this morning in Isfjord, in Svalbard, we came across this female that was continuously swimming in a small bay. It would dive in, surface after a few seconds, shake itself off and then dive in again. As mesmerised as we were with the sighting, we were also perplexed at the behaviour. After half an hour or so of swimming, she finally surfaced again but this time with the remains of what appeared to be a carcass of a seal, took it to the nearby ridge and started to finish it off. The best guess was that she had probably hunted it some time before and gone to sleep on the beach, and the tide had swept the carcass away. With food being so scarce, she had no option but to spend every ounce of energy looking for the remains.
